Putin Accepts Invitation to Visit China in October: Strengthening Russo-Chinese Ties

New Delhi : Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that he will be visiting China next month, accepting an invitation extended during the Belt and Road Summit. This visit comes at a time when Russia and China are actively working to harmonize their visions of creating a vast Eurasian space. Putin’s international travels have been limited due to an International Criminal Court warrant that could potentially lead to his arrest in numerous countries.

China has been heavily investing in its Belt and Road Initiative, a program aimed at bolstering its influence in the developing world by financing large-scale infrastructure projects. Meanwhile, Russia has been deepening its cooperation with China since the onset of the war and has notably increased its exports of natural gas and oil, which were previously directed towards European nations.

While China officially maintains a stance of neutrality in the ongoing conflict, it has criticized Western countries for imposing sanctions on Russia. Beijing has also accused the United States of contributing to the war by advocating for NATO expansion and, notably, last year, announced an “unrestricted” partnership with Moscow. This demonstrates the evolving dynamics of international relations in the face of the ongoing geopolitical developments.
