Safe Journeys: Indonesia’s Railways Ready for Idul Fitri Celebrations

Jakarta : During the upcoming Eid al-Fitr festivities, Indonesian Chief of the National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has reassured the public regarding the safety of train travel, following a comprehensive review of Senen Station in Jakarta on April 6th. General Prabowo emphasized that there haven’t been any reports of significant crime risks during the Eid exodus period. He underscored the readiness of police personnel stationed along the routes frequented by travelers, affirming their commitment to ensuring security throughout the journey.

In a parallel effort to ensure safe travels, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi has urged the state-run railway company, Indonesian Railways Company (KAI), to proactively address potential hazards such as bad weather-induced landslides, particularly along routes in southern Java. Minister Sumadi directed KAI to verify the functionality of all service posts established along train routes to enhance efficiency and response capabilities.

Anticipating a considerable influx of travelers, a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation estimates that approximately 193.6 million individuals will partake in the homecoming exodus to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. To accommodate this surge in demand, KAI plans to provide 1,688 long-distance train trips during the peak holiday period from March 31st to April 21st, averaging 77 trips per day. Notably, trains departing from Jakarta central station alone are anticipated to transport over 43,800 passengers daily, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the previous year.

With these proactive measures and increased transportation capacity, authorities aim to facilitate safe and convenient travel experiences for individuals journeying to reunite with their loved ones during the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
