Minor Earthquake Hits Santa Monica, California

California:  A 3.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, California, USA, only 10 minutes ago, according to the United States Geological Survey, a key agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake happened on May 8th, 2023, at 8:05 am local time, at a shallow depth of 4.3 miles beneath the epicenter. The magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the earthquake may be revised as seismologists review data. The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), Raspberry Shake citizen-seismograph network, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) also reported the earthquake, with IRIS listing it as magnitude 3.4 and EMSC at magnitude 3.3.
