According to James Alan Fox, a professor of Criminology, Law & Public Policy at Northeastern, 2023 has been the worst year for mass killings in the U.S. since at least 2006, and possibly ever. He attributes this increase to the high number of guns in the hands of Americans, a surge in gun sales since the pandemic, and the emotional and economic hardships caused by the pandemic, which has fueled divisiveness in the country.
