Urgent Public Health Warning: Measles Outbreak Alert in Hanoi

Attention All Residents

Hanoi, April 22, 2024

Hanoi- We regret to inform you of a concerning situation in our community. Hanoi has recorded its first case of measles this year, signaling a potential outbreak that demands immediate attention and action from every individual.

A 10-year-old girl residing in Hanoi has been diagnosed with measles despite having received three vaccinations against the disease. Her illness, which commenced at the end of March, underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance and preventive measures.

Measles is an acute infectious disease transmitted through the respiratory tract, presenting with symptoms such as fever, respiratory and gastrointestinal inflammation, and characteristic rashes. Complications can be severe, particularly among children, whose immune systems may be compromised following infection.

The recent surge in measles cases globally has prompted concerns from health authorities. The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a stark warning, indicating that over half of countries globally are at risk of measles outbreaks by year-end without urgent preventive measures. Alarmingly, measles cases surged by 79% last year compared to 2022, indicating a growing threat to public health.
