New Delhi : Kazakhstan’s Rising Star Writes New Chapter in Tennis History- Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan defeated Ons Jabeur of Tunisia 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to win the women’s singles title at Wimbledon on Saturday.

Rybakina, 23, is the first player from Kazakhstan to win a Grand Slam singles title. She is also the youngest women’s singles champion at Wimbledon since 2011.

Jabeur, the world No. 2, was bidding to become the first Arab woman to win a Grand Slam singles title. She had a strong start to the match, winning the first set 6-3. However, Rybakina came back strong in the second and third sets, winning both by the same score.

Rybakina’s victory was a surprise to many, as she was not considered one of the favorites to win the title. However, she played some of her best tennis of the tournament in the final, and she was able to overcome Jabeur’s powerful serve and aggressive style of play.

Rybakina was born in Moscow, Russia, but she switched her allegiance to Kazakhstan in 2018. She turned professional in 2015 and made her WTA Tour main-draw debut in 2016. She won her first WTA Tour title at the 2019 Bucharest Open.
