New Delhi : Following the emergency incident of MH122 flight departing from Australia to Malaysia, the aircraft returned to Sydney on Monday. Upon landing, a passenger was taken into police custody. However, the police classified this as an emergency incident.

Due to this emergency situation, several domestic flights were canceled and experienced delays at Australia’s busiest airports. Malaysia Airlines had initially launched flight MH122 from Sydney Airport to Kuala Lumpur with 199 passengers and a crew of 12 members. However, it was reported that a passenger claimed to possess explosive materials and threatened to bomb the plane. In the interest of safety, the flight’s commander decided to return to Sydney. Local police officials detained a 45-year-old individual without any incident. The rest of the passengers were released from the aircraft after almost three hours of its landing. Police expect to press charges against the unidentified individual later on Monday. No specific charges have been specified.

Meanwhile, the airline has stated that passengers will be transferred to the next available flights. The airline expressed gratitude to Malaysian Airlines officials for their prompt response and to passengers for their calm and cooperative behavior during the inspection.

Sydney Airport reported that some flights were disembarking while others continued to board, with emergency agencies remaining responsive to the situation. No international flights were canceled.
